This Privacy Policy explains how Voxenor (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, stores, and protects information when you use:

• the website at voxenor.com, and
• the Voxenor mobile applications for iOS and Android (the “Apps”).

We design Voxenor to help people learn languages by reading books. We are committed to protecting your privacy under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other applicable laws.

1. Who we are

2. Data we collect

2.1 Mobile Apps (iOS / Android)

Depending on how you use the Apps, the following may be stored locally on your device:

• Language preferences: your native language and learning language.
• Library data: books you add (from Project Gutenberg or files you import), reading progress, and cached page translations.
• Vocabulary: words you save and related translations.
• App settings: dark mode, onboarding status, daily reading minutes, and similar preferences.
• Optional device files: if you import a book or image from your device, the text extracted from that file is stored locally for reading.

The Apps do not require an account, and we do not operate a user profile database for the free offline-first mobile reading experience.

2.2 Website (voxenor.com)

If you create a web account or use website features, we may collect:

• Account information: email or username, display name, and a securely hashed password (never stored in plain text).
• Reading data: imported books, preferences, saved vocabulary, and reading position when synced to the service.
• Session data: a session cookie to keep you logged in.
• Optional supporter data: name, handle, message, or donation notes if you submit them.

3. Data processed over the network

When online, Voxenor may send limited data to third-party services solely to provide core features:

• Project Gutenberg: downloads public-domain book text/metadata. No personal account data is shared.
• Translation services: short text fragments (page text or words) may be sent to translation providers to generate translations you request.
• Pronunciation / TTS fallbacks: a word may be sent to a speech service only when you request pronunciation and on-device speech is unavailable.

We do not sell personal data. We do not use your reading content for advertising profiles.

4. Permissions (mobile)

• Photos / media (optional): used only if you import a book from an image and choose OCR.
• Files / documents (optional): used only if you import TXT, PDF, EPUB, DOCX, or similar files.
• Network: used to download books and request translations/pronunciation when needed.

You can deny optional permissions; core offline reading of already-downloaded books still works.

5. How we use information

• To provide reading, translation, vocabulary, and study features.
• To remember your preferences and progress on your device (Apps) or account (website).
• To improve reliability and fix issues when you contact support.
• To comply with legal obligations.

6. Cookies & analytics

The website may use essential cookies for authentication. If analytics tools are enabled on the website, they are used only to understand aggregate traffic and improve the product. The mobile Apps do not require third-party advertising SDKs to function.

7. Data storage & security

• Apps: library content and preferences are stored in the app sandbox on your device.
• Website: account data is stored on secured servers with hashed passwords and HTTPS in production.

No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information.

8. Data retention

• Apps: data remains on your device until you delete it in the app, clear app data, or uninstall the app.
• Website accounts: retained while the account is active. Expired sessions are cleaned up automatically.
• When you request deletion of a website account, we permanently remove associated personal data within 30 days, unless a longer retention is legally required.

9. Your rights (GDPR and similar laws)

Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, port, or object to processing of personal data. To exercise rights related to website accounts or any data we control, email voxenor@gmail.com.

For App data stored only on your device, use Profile → Clear local data (or uninstall the app).

10. Children

Voxenor is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 where required by local law). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided personal data through the website, contact us and we will delete it promptly.

11. International transfers

If you use translation or book-download services, data may be processed on servers outside your country. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards and service providers’ compliance commitments.

12. Deleting your data

• Mobile Apps: use in-app “Clear local data”, or uninstall the app. See also Delete my data.
• Website account: request deletion at voxenor@gmail.com or follow instructions on Delete my data.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Material changes may also be announced on the website or in app release notes.
